Lampwork  Glassbeads  is  also  a  most  favorite  beads  in  jewelry making. These  Indonesia  handcrafted  fire  glass  beads  are  made by  the  tremendous  talented  crafters  in Indonesia. They  are selftaught  artists. Borned  artists.  And  they  are   villagers.

They  made  these   amazing   glassbeads  right  on  the  flaming  fire, one  by  one  with  hands, mixed  with  their  sweat  and  maybe with  their  tears.

Give  them  samples, and voila…!.They  could  make  even  better than  the  samples.  (That’s  a  gifted  talent  to  the  Indonesian crafters  in  all  handicraft  fields).

Lampwork  glassbeads   hand been  found and  made in  Indonesia  since  ages ago. Before  was  known  as  ‘trade  beads’.

Actually,  the  Indonesia   lamp  work  glass bead  had  been ‘go international’ since  long  time  ago.
But  it never   appeared  as  “made  in  Indonesia”  beads.

I ever found  on  internet, on  American  jewelry designer ‘s website, using  lampwork  glassbeads  mention  as  “Indonesia Trade Beads”, “Indonesia Glassbead” or “Recycled Glassbead”.(Thanks  for  mentioned  it).

*The Story Of A Village

*

Some  decades  ago, there  was  small  village  in  Jombang,  East Java.  Like  other  small villages, all the  people  are  relatives  as well  as  with  the  chief  of  the  village.

Most  of  them  are  small  farmers  where  in  the  same  time (or after  the  harvest  time  of  the  rice field ) they  work  in  a  glass factory  in  this  village.

One day, the  glass factory  closed  of  bankruptcy. Suddenly  all  the people  in  the  village  lost  their  income.

During  this  bad  condition, the  chief  of  the  village  captured  this moment. The people  who  have  had  already  the  knowledge  of glass  blowing  and  glass  making, he  transferred  them  as  a glassbead  artist  and  crafter. And  guide them  with  trial  and error, to  make  durable  and  fine quality  lovely  lampwork glass beads.

The  Indonesia  lampwork  glassbeads  are  made  of  recycled  glass.

In  the  earlier  stages  they  started  from  door  to  door, from  garbage  to  garbage, to  collect  the  the  pieces  of  broken  glasses and  plates. Even  the  broken  glasses  of  windows.

But  now  they  have  the  broken  glasses  supplier  from everywhere.  From  garbage  to  human  living.

After  the  retirement, the  former  head  of  the  village  together with  his  wife  became  their  glassbeads’  godfather, in  the  same  time  as  the  supervisor  and  marketer. Later,  the  ‘godfather’  get finance  help  from  the  government  bank.

At  first, they  just  duplicate   the  antique  primitive  beads  from  the  Kalimantan (Borneo)  Dayak  tribal .  On  the  way, people  give  them  samples  to  duplicate. These days,  they  also  made   glass  beads  for  Kalimantan  and  international  market.

Now,  the  former glass labors  in East Java  become  glassbeads artists  and  crafters, as  the  boss of their own, the  small entrepreneurs.

Under  the  guidance  of  the  former  village  leader  they  also  made  lot  of  experiments.

*

Don’t  ask  the  crafters  about  color’s  name. Just  passed  them  the color  chart. And  thadaaa…… they  made  it  amazingly.

Want  to  make  a  shiny  trendy  one, matt  look, or  antique look beads? Plain, colorful, flowered, stripes, dots, motifs  or bumpy? You are Welcome.

So, the  todays  Indonesia  lampwork   glassbeads  for  jewelry, in innovating  designs,  started  from  this  village.  As  the  pioneer  (the  former chief  of  the  village)  had  told  me.

Now, their neighboring  villages are  also  handcrafting  glass beads. As  well as  the  resin beads which  made  from  the  resin  tree.

And  the  lampwork  glassbeads  of  today   does  not  come  from East Java  only, but  some  region  made  such  beautiful  glassbeads too.

The  lampwork  glassbead  that  you  find  on  my  Ross Atelier.com (and ChantikJewels.wordpress.com) come straight  from  this pioneer, the  former  head  of  the  village.

These  lampwork glass  beads  like  mine, are  not  selling  in common  shops. Just  in  crafts  shows, or  the  buyers  come  straight  to  the  village.

The  handcrafted  fire  glassbeads  of  this  villagers  had  been  long time  traveled  around  the world. But  not  carrying  the  Indonesia name. The  same  unlucky  story  like  the  Indonesia Gemstone, Semi  and  Precious  Stones, and  the  other Indonesia  handcrafted items  and  commodities.

Without  Indonesia  label.

The  designers  only  passed  the  style, the color, the shape, and  the  size  they  want. The crafters  will  work  with  the  flames.

*The Look  of The Glass  Bead

*

Indonesia  lampwork  glassbead  at  least  had  two  kind  of  surface appearances  effect. The  shiny bead  like  the  porcelain  look, and the  matt look  bead  with  the antique  effect.

To  get  the  antique  effect look ( matt, vintage  or  old look) need more  extra work  than  the  shiny  one.

Same  to  the  foil  lined (inserting) glass bead , like the  Murano  glass  beads.

The  price  of  the  glass  bead  depend  on  the  effort  which  needed and  the way  how  to  make it. The  more  colors, more  complicated  motif  and  colored  flower  motif,  will  need  more efforts  and spend  more  time  to make  the  (each) beads.

The  beautiful and  the complicated  drawing  and  the  bumpy  glass bead influence  the  effort and  the  time  of  making.

The more  time  had  been  spent  and  the  more  sweat  had  been dropped would  influence  the  effort  and  the  time  of  the making.

The Indonesian lampwork, fire glass bead (as in my jewelries) had been made one by one for every piece of bead, on flaming burning fire.

* The Patience

You  cannot  order  the  special  designed  of  this  glassbead  in  very  small  quantity  only  or  just  for  some pieces. Perhaps in small  amount  of  each design, but  all  together  it  must  in  big quantity.

The  reason  is, to make  one  bead  or  tons  of  bead,  they  need  the same effort  of  preparation.

But!  There’s  a  bad  hereditary  habit  beyond   this  beautiful  creations.

Don’t  be  late  to  collect  your  order.  It  is  very  possible  to  someone  who  suddenly  visited  their  workshop  will  take  over your  ready  order.

And   that  means,  you  had  to  wait  for  another  turn.

*

Could  you  imagine, if  those  custom  order  beads, (my  own design, my special  size  and  color), suddenly  and   sneakingly, flew to  others, who  can buy  them  just  in  retail  by  pieces.

And  the  crafters  always  have  the  same  ‘sweet’  reason  for  you, “When  they  came, by chance, I  am  needing  money  so  badly  for  my  family. I  am  sorry  for  it. I will  make  it  for  you  soon”.

They  don’t  care  about   the  time you  have  lost, and  about  your  special  design  and  special  color.

Like  it or  not, you  have  no choice.  You  have  to  understand   their  behavior .

What  a  tearful  and  huge  patience  needed,  to  face  the  made – by- order  beads  gone  away.

Such  inconvenienced  used  to  happened  in  many  field  of  the crafters  in villages and  small  cities. Perhaps  that  is  the  reason, lot  of  foreigner companies  put  their  own  representative  person to  “sit”  right  beside  the crafters lap.

Obviously, my  durable  quality  fine  glass beads  and  resin jewelry,  came straight  from  the hands, fire  and  sweat  of  these  villagers (and  their  broken  promises ).

If  you  wear  my  lampwork glass beads  jewelry  and  the  other handcrafted  items,  supposing  it  was  a  tearful   one  of  mine.

But  all  my  sadness  will  turn  into  happiness  if  it  could  make you  look distinctive, beautiful  and happy.
